"Our island kingdom occupies a most advantageous outpost for carrying forward this noble undertaking of world evangelism...I am thoroughly convinced there is no place in the world so favorable for effectively reaching the Chinese with Christ's Gospel as in Honolulu...The organization of this church and the creation of this commodious edifice are things for which we are bound to give thanks...I entertain the fond hope that light is to be kindled which shall enlighten not a few coming hither but even a greater number now dwelling in the shores of Asia."

These words were spoken by Dr. Samuel Damon, co-founder of our church, at its dedication in 1879. Although, there have been many changes since that old church on Fort Street was dedicated, that same focus and fervor has continued to pull the people of the First Chinese Church of Christ forward as they have founded other Chinese congregations throughout our islands, established Hawai'i's first kindergarten, and sent out numerous missionaries and ethnic-Chinese ministers back to Asia to share the gospel.
Although we are no longer exclusively an ethnic-Chinese church, as people of many cultures have been welcome from the very beginning into our midst, still, the call to bring the gospel especially to the chinese have urged us on and our church family includes many recent immigrants from China. We welcome you as you visit our site and to share our ministry with us as you pass through our island home.
